How many innovations have ever been made to red brick? There was a person who decided to add texture to their surface, and maybe the composition of the materials of the bricks has changed over the years, but it has essentially remained the same for ages. Developers Jin-yang Yoon and Jeongvung Kuon want to introduce a radical new approach to brick making: use recycled materials and use their design to conserve rainwater.
Their Conservation Water Brick project was a finalist at the Incheon International Design Award 2009 competition, the theme of which was “Green Design and Everyday Life.” The developers took three ubiquitous parts of our daily lives and smashed them lovingly together: modules, fallen leaves, and discarded plastic. Their brick would be made from the last two, thus solving two pollution problems at once..
The bricks also have a water groove on the side, a kind of rainwater channel that would direct falling water to the rain barrel for the set or to the underground chamber of the set. The water could then either be used directly for plants or other sulfur-water applications, or even purified for human consumption.
