The planning structure of the city, as well as its architecture, were formed as a result of the location of St. Petersburg and its natural features. The main architectural ensembles are comfortably located on the banks of the Neva. The river itself divided the big city into two halves, and to this day it is a waterway of international importance. The history of the city begins with the construction of the Peter and Paul Fortress. At the same time, construction began on the building of the Admiralty. For its construction, the drawings of Peter the Great were used. Then they built the central tower, some other buildings and structures. But as a result of fires in 1736 and 1737, many buildings were completely burned down and almost all buildings in the city had to be restored. Simultaneously with the construction of the city, work is underway to create ensembles in Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo, Vasilievsky Island is being built up. Each era brings something new to the architecture of the city, allows you to create stunning ensembles, slightly changes the appearance of the city, but in general leads to the fact that St. Petersburg gets its own special style, has an amazing and unique architectural appearance.
