The eastern Cuban province of Granma is in the grip of heavy rains, which have been pouring continuously for several days. As a result, more than 300 residential buildings were destroyed and flooded. The disaster also seriously damaged about 260 temporary buildings in which families lived awaiting the completion of new housing construction. On the night from Friday to Saturday, about 30 residents of the municipality were in the shelter. 250 people were temporarily housed in the homes of their friends and relatives. Due to the unraveling elements, the automobile communication in the province was disrupted. 9.5 kilometers of the Santiago de Cuba road were blocked due to landslides. 60 kilometers of mountain roads in hard-to-reach places were partially damaged. As a result of incessant downpours, the rivers Gua and Purgatorio overflowed the banks. Several districts were left without electricity. Great damage has been inflicted on livestock and agricultural farms. According to meteorologists, heavy rains were caused by an area of ​​low atmospheric pressure in the east and in the center of Liberty Island. Forecasts by weather forecasters are disappointing.
